4. Key things every member of staff should know

Dress Code
Members of staff are required to set positive examples in terms of their dress and appearance, given that we, as much as the pupils, reflect the image of the School. Staff must, therefore, in all respects be smart, professional and business-like. Male members of staff should wear jackets and ties and female members of staff are expected to reflect comparable standards of dress, including a jacket.

Headmaster
Staff are encouraged to use his first name, Shaun, when talking to him, but in front of parents and pupils, please refer to him as Headmaster. His PA, Bron (BGE) is always happy to make an appointment for you to see him, or do drop by the office.

Pastoral concerns
In the first instance, please talk to the relevant Head of Year. For child protection issues, you should always raise your concern with the Deputy Head, Sarah Arthur (SJA).

Academic issues
For most issues, your Head of Department should be able to help. For issues about timetabling, reports and tracking, the Director of Studies, Brendan Stones (BPS) can help. For teaching and learning, the Senior Deputy, Mary-Ann Collins (MAC) is always happy to talk.

Absences
If you have a planned absence please fill in a cover request form from the back of the common room and hand to the Assistant Head, Viv Godbold (VIG). If you are ill, please call the school 01737 222231 before 8am.

Employment issues
The School has a full time HR expert, Dawn Holmes (DLH) and staff may contact her at any time.

IT issues
If you have any IT needs or there’s a problem with your computer or IASMSwith iSAMS, the school’s database, please email ITH@reigategrammar.org .

Practical day to day issues
If you need to report any practical concerns from a spentlight bulb, to insufficient chairs, please contact the School Porters (porters@reigategrammar.org) who will be able to direct you in the right direction.

Parents
If you have a specific concern, about a student it is always worth discussing with your Head of Department and/or Head of Year, who will advise when it is appropriate to email the pupil’s parents. Please keep all communication business like and professional.

The School Porters
Incoming post is sorted by the school porters who will deliver this to staff pigeon holes. The porters will also handle outgoing post, although a charge is made for personal post. Any practical matters (such as missing lightbulbs, additional chairs etc) should be directed to the porters in the first instance.

Stationery and Supplies
Requests for stationery should be made to Linda Stephens (LJS@reigatetegrammar.org) who will provide for most reasonable requests. Photocopiers are situated around the school and are linked to the network so that you can print straight to them from a computer. Large amounts of copying (eg over 20 copies) should be sent to Alex Hillman in the reprographics department (ah@reigategrammar.org) or via her pigeon hole in the common room.

Reception
All visitors must be directed to and collected from reception and must sign in and out of school. The School has a public right of way crossing the site near the dining hall. Please do not allow unaccompanied visitors through gates or doors with security key pads.

Catering services
Hot and Cold drinks are available from the Staff common room and the PMH. All staff are entitled to

Personal property and cars
Whilst the school will take all reasonable precautions, it regrets that it is unable to accept responsibility for personal property, including vehicles brought onto the site. Valuables should not be brought to work and you should keep essential belongings with you. There is limited staff car parking available. Vehicles must not be parked in a way that could restrict access for emergency vehicles or cause inconvenience to our neighbours. There are bicycles racks near the Hamlyn building and changing facilities with showers are available for staff use at the swimming pool.

Facilities
Staff may use the school swimming pool and gym at advertised times.

8. PSHE and Sex Education (SJA)

All students at Reigate Grammar School receive Personal, Social and Health Education throughout the First to Fifth Years. The course is divided into six areas:

In the First and Second Years PSHE is delivered by Form Tutors in lessons once a week, where there is an emphasis on discussion and sharing. In the Third and Fourth year PSHE is delivered as a component of the ‘Electives’ programme, with talks from visiting experts and sessions from members of staff at school with specialist expertise. This includes sessions on Health and Careers. In the Fifth Years students are taught carefully structured PSHE courses by staff. They work through four topics areas over the year:

Courses in all years make use of visiting speakers who are experts in their field, as well as a wide range of recorded visual material. Parent’s will always be informed in advance of any upcoming sensitive issues in the PSHE material. Parents have a right to withdraw their children from SRE education if they wish. Parent Forums may also be organised if a particular issues is causing a lot of concern or interest amongst parents.
